September is here! Although we don't want to admit it, it's been a month since our trip to the Azores!!! What. The. Heck. Where did the time go?!?!
If you didn't already know, the Azores are a collections of 9 majestic islands : Santa Maria, São Miguel, Terceira, Faial, Pico, São Jorge, Graciosa, Flores and Corvo. It's where our parents are from, and it was a blast getting to tour all of the islands for the first time with our whole family.
These islands are so tiny on the map, but trust us, they're there, right in between the East Coast and Portugal. There, lies this magical place of volcanic energy, and our experience was just that. It was a whirlwind of miradouros (viewpoints), clean air, lava rock, black sand, expansive night sky, and an ocean of all the kinds of blue you can think of! There were impeccable natural parks and untouched land...it was breath-taking. Not to mention, a majority of the energy used on the islands are from natural resources (wind, sun, geothermal, wave)!!! All of the islands had an impressive and admirable dedication to cleanliness. Fo' real.
Side note: there were proper recycling bins everywhere. yeah. #heaven #azoresproud
After 10 flights, 6 boat rides, and a lot of driving...it was all worth it!
There were a lot of places giving us inspo, but one place in particular made us feel like we were living in SPACEDAY. It was otherworldly...like the Monolith was not far away....it was:
Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre, one of Faial's natural parks.
check. it. out.....
(a few shots were from other places on the islands :) ...#Kubrickfeels)
